Loot Types

Compared to other online multiplayer strategy games, Clash of Clans does not come with an overwhelming number of loot types. There are only four types of loot in the game – Gold, Elixir, Dark Elixir, and Gem. Each resource/loot comes with its own special function and rarity. That’s why it is highly recommended for new players to learn about each loot before jumping into the game. This is to ensure that you will not go on a spending spree that will slow down your progress, especially if you do not want to spend real-world currency in the game.

• Gold – Used for Defense Upgrades, Building Siege Machines, Traps, Elixir Collectors, Elixir Storage, Defensive Buildings, Workshops, and placing national Flag Decorators. This resource comes with its own gold storage and is dug in Gold Mines.
• Elixir – Elixirs are used for the production and upgrade of Troops. This resource is also used for building Dark Elixir Storage, Gold Mines, Gold Storages, and placing decorations.
• Dark Elixir – This is a resource harvested using Dark Elixir Drills and stored in Dark Elixir Storage. This rare resource is used for the production and upgrade of Hero Class Troops, Grand Warden, and Dark Elixir Troops.
• Gem – Gem is collected in Gem Mines and is the premium currency in the game. Unless you have a lot of money lying around, it is highly recommended to bank and strategize the spending of this resource. You can also find this resource when clearing trees and rocks in your village. This precious resource is also awarded to the top players in the game every week and is given as a prize for various competitions. You can use gems to purchase Gold, Elixir, and Dark Elixir. In addition, this resource can also speed up resource collection, troop training, and acquire builder’s hut.

Loot Sources

• Raids – One of the most efficient ways of farming loot in COC is raiding the base of other players. Attacking the base of another player requires planning and investment. Speaking of investment, you need to use your finest troops and leave the cheap ones at the base to increase loot profit. Doing this will allow you to reap the benefits of receiving 75% of the contents of a mine or collector.
• Star Bonuses – Clash of Clans employs the use of a Trophy-Based system in battles. This means that losing a raid will cost you precious trophies while winning with three stars will gain you some. Winning with 2 stars will allow you to acquire two-thirds of the normal trophy count and one-third for one star. The importance of trophies is connected to your climb in the various league tiers in the game. Once you acquire enough trophies, you will automatically be promoted to a specific league. Each promotion comes with a loot bonus that you can add to your stash.
• Clan Wars – Clan Wars, as the name of the activity suggests, is a team effort that requires five of your clanmates to play. Clan Wars comes with a generous amount of loot as a reward. However, the number of loot still depends on the number of stars you acquire at the end of the battle.
• Rewards – One of the easiest ways to acquire loot is through monthly rewards. All you need to do is execute one builder base attack, one multiplayer attack, and donate at least fifteen troops every day to get the full monthly rewards.
